My Story
It Started in Chicago…
Oprah Winfrey, thank you, because without you there would not be a ‘DrBev’ Mental Health Counseling.
Back in the 90’s, I had the great fortune to be in the audience of the “Oprah” show ‘300 Women and their views on Men.” To my surprise I was asked to share a thought that I had written on a questionnaire given to us prior to the show.
Excited to share my thoughts, I said of course, I would be happy to stand at mike #3. Oprah shared her thoughts on what I had said and waited for my reply.
After my brain took a minor pause, “Oprah is talking to ME!!!!!!”
I answered her, and shortly thereafter the show went to commercial. During the break, my idol, Oprah, came over and sat down on the podium beside my chair. To me, in my mind, we talked as if we were Sista’s from another mother.
Long story short, I was requested, by Oprah, to come to the mike two more times.
At one point, Oprah asked what I did for a living and as I shared my story she encouraged me to go back to graduate school and entertain the thought of Counseling. This was a life defining moment for me. My world has never been the same since that trip to Chicago….…And So I’m Here!
